Laura Linney, best known for portraying strong, but vulnerable characters, is one of the most acclaimed American actors of the present. Her father was a celebrated writer, however Linney was raised as an only child by a single mom who was a nurse. During the summers when she was with her father, Linney developed a passion for theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. She began her Broadway career soon after completing her degree after which she made her TV debut in the next year. She has been featured on a number of television, film and stage productions since then. Through her entire professional career, she's received several awards. Some of them comprise 2 Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards and three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her recognitions and awards, theater is her main interest and she will continue to act on both the stage and on screen.
